New Imaging Technology at Centennial Hills Hospital Helps Reduce Radiation, Provide Precise Stent Placement During Heart Procedures
Interventional cardiologists at Centennial Hills Hospital now use ARTIS icono technology to reduce patients’ radiation doses and provide the precise placements of stents to reduce potential complications.
Interventional cardiac procedures are used to treat heart attacks and heart disease using less invasive methods. Examples include percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), or angioplasty, to restore blood flow to a coronary artery; balloon angioplasty to improve blood flow to the heart; atherectomies to open up hard blockages in the arteries; and implanting stents to keep newly opened arteries from closing back up.
Reducing Radiation Doses
To better protect patients, the ARTIS icono technology features an OPTIQ imaging chain which automatically selects the lowest radiation dose for the patient based on the physician’s preferred image quality during a cardiac interventional procedure.
Software Provides Pathway to Precise Placement
The CLEARstent Live advanced guidance software provides real-time verification of the undeployed stent, ensuring that it is properly positioned within the artery and reducing the motion of the beating heart. With this technology, heart procedures may take less time and reduce the amount of contrast dye a patient may receive. This can be a critical factor for patients with certain medical conditions, like kidney disease.

"Patients benefit from these major technology upgrades through reduced radiation, reduced procedural time and accurate, precise placement of stents that will re-open blood flow to their hearts," explained James Lally, MD, Interventional Cardiologist and Medical Director of the Cardiac Cath Lab at Centennial Hills Hospital. "In turn, this helps the heart pump enough blood to carry a constant supply to the brain and other vital organs."
"Our goal is to continually provide advanced cardiovascular care to help our patients and our community," said Sajit Pullarkat, CEO of Centennial Hills Hospital. "Whether it’s a major technology investment, our continued accreditation for chest pain care, or our ability to save someone’s life, we are offering high-quality heart care, close to home."
