Centennial Hills Hospital Recognized with National Award for Clinical Excellence in Wound Care Services
Staff members of the Advanced Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center
Centennial Hills Hospital’s Advanced Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center was honored with the Center of Distinction Award by Healogics, the nation’s largest provider of advanced wound care services. The Center achieved outstanding clinical outcomes for 12 consecutive months, including patient satisfaction higher than 92 percent and a minimum wound healing rate of at least 91 percent within 30 median days to heal.
“This award is a testament to the hard work of our wound care team and physicians,” said Sajit Pullarkat, CEO/Managing Director of Centennial Hills Hospital. “Their attention to identifying the root cause of the wound and developing an effective treatment plan can positively impact patients’ quality of life. I’m very proud of their accomplishments and outcomes, especially since our Center has been open for less than two years.”
George Barnes, Jr., MD, Medical Director for Centennial Hills Hospital’s wound care center, defines a chronic wound as a wound that has failed to proceed through an orderly and timely reparative process to produce an anatomic and functional integrity of the injured site. Factors that impact the body’s ability to heal a wound include poor blood and oxygen circulation, weight-bearing pressure, infections and chronic diseases such as diabetes.
People at greatest risk for developing chronic wounds include those who have chronic medical conditions or vascular disease, a weak immune system, a previous history of ulcers or long periods of bed rest, unhealthy lifestyle habits such as smoking, or a poor diet and hygiene, and those who don’t move very much. Age can also be a factor in chronic wounds.
The Advanced Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center at Centennial Hills Hospital is a member of the Healogics network of nearly 700 Wound Care Centers® that provide access to benchmarking data and proven experience treating approximately 2.5 million chronic wounds. The Center at Centennial Hills Hospital offers highly specialized wound care to patients suffering from diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, infections and other chronic wounds which have not healed in a reasonable amount of time. Leading edge treatments at the Center include negative pressure wound therapy, total contact casting, bio-engineered tissues, biosynthetic dressings and growth factor therapies. The Center also offers hyperbaric oxygen therapy, which works by surrounding the patient with 100 percent oxygen to help progress the healing of the wound.
